Well said. I agree with your insightful analysis, all except your aversion to deregulation. There is no better regulator than the free market, if it is truly free. If the monopoly of government cares about public opinion enough to regulate environmental policy, then that public opinion is way more influential on competing businesses. A great example is how the private sector literally solved the hole in the ozone layer problem by simply introducing an innovation of CFC-free aerosols. After businesses started adopting it to catch up with their environmentally conscious customer demand, the government went on to make it mandatory to take all the credit.
